We ranked these options by anime focus, image and customization features, upfront cost, and available App Store review signals. Acgbg ranks second as our focused, low-cost option for original anime-inspired artwork.

How to choose the right anime wallpaper app
- Decide between still and live. A static image is simple and works broadly. Live wallpaper behavior depends on the iPhone model, iOS version, and how the image was made; check the app’s current instructions.
- Look at the whole screen, not only the background. If you want matching icons, widgets, or lock-screen themes, compare apps built for customization rather than a wallpaper-only gallery.
- Check the real cost. “Free” can mean free download with a limited collection, ads, a subscription, or in-app purchases. Review the current App Store price and renewal terms before subscribing.
- Read the image-use terms. An image being available inside a wallpaper app does not automatically grant permission to repost it or use it commercially. Check the app’s license and attribution instructions.
- Use ratings with context. A 4.8 average from a small number of ratings is less evidence than a similar average from thousands. Ratings also vary by storefront and change over time.
Which anime wallpaper app is best?
It depends on what you value. Anime Wallpaper - Live Engine ranks first here for its breadth and substantial rating history. Acgbg is our #2 value pick for original anime-inspired artwork, a focused collection, and a low upfront price. For live and 4K choices, compare Anime Wallpaper 4K – Live with Anime Live Wallpaper - 4K. For broader screen customization, Zedge and MyScreen include anime alongside other styles.
Before setting any live wallpaper, preview it on your own lock screen and check that it crops cleanly around the clock and widgets. If you plan to share or reuse artwork, confirm the creator’s permission instead of assuming a wallpaper download includes redistribution rights.
